Food Contact Materials · testing, compliance & data

Prove your packaging and materials are safe and compliant across every product, site, and supplier.

KÖR LABS tests your food-contact materials through a network of accredited laboratories, returns every result in one standard format, and puts your data in one place you can compare and act on. Migration, NIAS, PFAS, functional barrier, the compliance work behind your products, done properly.

PPWR (EU) 2025/40 · in force

The PFAS restriction is here. Here's how we get you compliant.

From 12 August 2026, PPWR restricts PFAS in all food-contact packaging placed on the EU market. Every packaging type now needs accredited proof of compliance. A supplier's declaration doesn't count. It doesn't stop there. Every new product you launch needs its own evidence too. If you sell into the EU, wherever you're based, this applies to you.

We test each packaging type through our accredited network and give you exactly the evidence your technical file needs. With comparable offers from multiple accredited labs, you choose the fastest available turnaround. And you won't always need the full analysis: we start with fast, low-cost Total Fluorine screening, and only escalate to targeted PFAS testing when a sample calls for it.

Testing services

Full Food Contact Material coverage for all your regulatory requirements.

NIAS TESTING

Find and quantify the substances you can't predict.

Screening for NIAS: detects and identifies unknown, non-intentionally-added substances.
Quantification of NIAS: measures the concentration of identified substances to assess safety risk.
MIGRATION TESTING

Measure what moves from packaging into food.

Overall Migration (OMT): total substances migrating into food or simulants under set conditions.
Specific Migration (SMT): the amount of a specific substance or group migrating under set conditions.
FUNCTIONAL BARRIER

Prove your barrier stops what it should.

Barrier Performance Testing: assesses whether harmful substances can migrate through layers designed to prevent it.
Evaluates the effectiveness of functional barriers in multi-layer materials, key for recycled content under EU 2022/1616.
TARGETED SUBSTANCE ANALYSIS

Check a known substance against its limit.

Monomers: styrene, vinyl chloride, acrylonitrile, and others.
Additives: plasticizers, antioxidants, stabilizers, and other functional additives.
Heavy metals: lead, cadmium, chromium and others, via ICP-MS or AAS.
Standardisation

Built for standardised, comparable results.

KÖR LABS is built so every lab in the network measures the same way, the right techniques, proven proficiency, and one shared reporting format.

That's what makes your results trustworthy and genuinely comparable, whoever ran the test and whichever site or supplier they came from. No reconciling different report formats by hand. No wondering whether two results mean the same thing.

Screening for NIAS: Detects and identifies unknown substances.
Quantification of NIAS: Measures the concentration of identified NIAS to assess safety risks.

Overall Migration Testing (OMT): Measures the total amount of all mobile substances that migrate from packaging into food or food simulants under the influence of specific predetermined conditions.
Specific Migration Testing (SMT): Measures the amount of a specific substance or group of substances that migrate from packaging into food or food simulants under the influence of specific predetermined conditions.

Barrier Performance Testing: Assesses if harmful substances can migrate through layers designed to prevent this. Evaluates the effectiveness of functional barriers in multi-layer materials.

Monomer Testing: Analyzes specific monomers like styrene, vinyl chloride, acrylonitrile, etc.
Additives Testing: For plasticizers, antioxidants, stabilizers, and other functional additives.
Heavy Metals Testing: Detects metals like lead, cadmium, chromium, etc., often through ICP-MS or AAS.

Become fully compliant with EU regulations

KÖR and PETCORE EUROPE have joined forces to support PETCORE EUROPE members for filing to DG Santé to comply with article 32 on functional barrier of EU 2022/1616. This collaboration aims to streamline the process by

  • running the right measurement techniques,
  • making sure that all laboratories are measuring the same, which needs proficiency tests,
  • aggregating the data in the same format.

How it works

Experience a seamless FCM testing journey by using KÖR LABS, our digital platform:

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is a supplier's PFAS declaration enough for PPWR?

No. Under PPWR you need accredited test evidence for each packaging type, a supplier's declaration doesn't satisfy the regulation or a customer audit. KÖR LABS gives you that accredited proof, per type.

What are the PPWR PFAS limits?

25 ppb for any individual PFAS (targeted analysis), 250 ppb for the sum of targeted PFAS, and 50 ppm total fluorine.

How long is the turnaround time?

It depends on the test, but KÖR LABS shows you real-time offers from multiple accredited labs, so you can always choose the fastest option available for your requirement, rather than waiting in a single lab's queue.

Do you test recycled content / PET under EU 2022/1616?

Yes. We cover functional barrier and the testing needed for recycled-content compliance, reported in one standardised format.

What should i know about reporting?

You choose between a readable data sheet (.xlsx) or a PDF certificate of analysis. Every lab reports in the same standardised format, so results stay comparable.

What is the required sample amount, and what happens with leftovers?

Sample amount varies by test, sampling and packaging guidelines are in KÖR LABS. The lab retains remaining sample for 6 months under suitable conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is responsible for logistics?

Our service focuses on the core offering, excluding logistics management. You're responsible for arranging logistics independently. Delivery details are available when viewing the selected laboratory's address upon order submission.

How long is the turnaround time?

Turnaround time varies by laboratory. Contact our customer support for specific details tailored to your requirements.

What should I know about reporting?

Certified labs provide standard reports. You can choose between a readable data sheet (.xlsx) or a PDF certificate of analysis. All of the laboratories report based on the same standardized format.

What is the required sample amount?

The sample amount can vary based on the selected tests. You can also find detailed sampling and packaging guidelines conveniently provided in KÖR LABS.

What happens to the remaining test materials?
